Every Morning

Every Morning
Every Morning when I wake up
And feel you lying right beside me
I close my eyes again and smile and get real still
Then like a glove your love surrounds me
It’s a warmness that astounds me
As familiar as it is, it always will
What have I done to deserve such devotion?
What did I give to receive all this?
Up from the darkest nights and emotions
Into your arms and heaven’s kiss
Every day before the sun’s up
I feel you wrap your arms around me
I close my eyes again and smile and say a prayer
For all the good things that surround us
For the miracle that found us
For every blessing I am seeing everywhere
How in the world did I get such a notion?
How did I live before all this?
Up from a sea of doubt in an ocean
Into your arms and heaven’s kiss
Every morning when I rise up
Before my eyes have even dried up
I close them back again and wipe away the night
Another long dark hour is gone through
And now this morning I am with you
And before this moment ends, we’ll see the light
When did it need no more correction?
When did it change from that to this?
Somewhere I turned in a new direction
Into your arms and heaven’s kiss
Into your arms and heaven’s kiss

A Merry Ferry Boat Ride to Balboa

A Merry Ferry Boat Ride to Balboa

A sunny weekend day and we’re on our way
To go outside and play on Balboa
An isle across a moat, requires a ferry boat
And a captain sayin’, “I’ll tow ya.”

So my new friend, Ron drove his truck right on
And we hopped atop the keel
And then just for laughs we took photographs
Of the island’s Ferris wheel

Made a few new friends as our crossing ends
And in no time we’ve arrived
Buy an ice cream cone and then I’m shone
Why it’s good to be alive

It’s good to walk boardwalks and have long talks
With different points of view
And what’s really great is to celebrate
All the mes in me and the yous in you

And that’s just what we did like a couple kids
As we sang and laughed out loud
A simple holiday down Balboa way
On a day without a cloud.

Long Beach (Revised) *

Long Beach (Revised)

Never thought I’d be singing about beautiful Long Beach
Never dreamed I could ever feel so inclined
Now I find I am bringing myself back to Long Beach
To the sands and the city that’s changing my mind

Now I’m singing every day ’bout the breezes and sunshine
How the harbor’s alive with laughter and wine
Where the dolphins and seals will play into night time
In an ocean that feels – it could turn on a dime

Never met anyone who said they’re from Long Beach
Not till I found how many resided right here
Now it seems everyone I depend on is in reach
Here at home,in a place – a place we hold dear

I am singing every day about the faces of friendship
About the strong helping hands that won”t go away
Where the friendliest smile you may see on a stranger
Or aboard on a cruise ship as she sails away

Never valued a touch as a hand held in Long Beach
Never had so much freedom to spend my free time
Reaching out, fitting in – How it goes here in Long Beach
So is this where I finally find peace of mind

I am singing every day In a chorus of solos
In a passionate way that brings harmonies
All along Long Beach Bay you can pick up the echoes
Of the spirits who beckon–beckon you stay

Before the Dream

Before the Dream

Isn’t it worse
Before it gets better
Always a first
Before second moves
Isn’t there always
A setback or two
Before the dream you
Dared to dream
Can come true
Isn’t it awful
Before it gets good
Often unlawful
Before there’s a should
Isn’t there always
A way to undo
Before the dream you
Dared to dream
Can come true
Isn’t there somewhere
A book or a hand guide
Map ahead
Or a fairy tale
Something out there
A look or a handshake
To show you the road
To billow your sail
Isn’t there always
A person or two
Who’ll hear and help
The dream you dared to dream
To come true
Isn’t it harder
Before it gets easy
Aren’t there roadblocks
Before the releases
Isn’t there always
A failure or two
Before the dream
You dared to dream
Can come true
Isn’t it crazy
Before it gets sane
Just a bit off
Before the right lane
Isn’t there always
A feeling of blue
Before the dream
You dared to dream
Can come true
Isn’t there somewhere
A fact or a fable
Fantasy
Or a fairy tale
Some kind of act
To make you more able
To stay on that road
To billow your sail
Isn’t there always
A person or two
Who’ll hear and help
The dream you dared to dream
To come true

Oh Life

Oh, Life
You can make me lie down
But I won’t go to sleep
You can make me cry out loud
But I’ll never weep
Take away all my possessions
There’s something that I’ll keep
Oh, Life,
The longer you make the nights,
The more I count the days
You can make my heart ache
But I won’t feel the pain
Drive me half crazy
But I won’t go insane
After all you try to put me through
I’ll still come out the same
Oh, Life,
The longer you make the nights,
The more I count the days.
You can make me go now,
But I’ll never leave
Bring on shame and blame and sorrow
But I’ll never grieve
You can raise every doubt and then some
I’ll still believe
Oh, Life,
The longer you make the nights
The more I count the days
I said, the longer you make my cold, dark nights,
The more I count the days
You can drag me through the darkness
And I still will see
Lock me up behind your prison bars
I’ll still be free
Even make me wish I was someone else
I’ll still be me
Oh, Life,
The longer you make the nights,
The more I count the days
Life,
Hey, Life
It’s about time
Get this…
(Music)
You can table every motion
But I won’t wait
Cast a frown on every notion
But I’ll not hesitate
To navigate your seven oceans
Himalayas of hate
Oh, Life, Oh, Life,
The longer you make the dark night,
Oh yeah,
I said, the longer you make the cold, dark night…
The more I kiss the sky and
Count the days, yeah
The more you try to keep me in the darkness
Hey, Hey!
The more I’m
Goin’ to Count – Count out loud, two, three, four…
The more I Count – you can count on me –
The longer you make the long, lonely night,
The more I
Count
The days.
