Steve

STEVE

I WANT TO WRITE BEFORE I LEAVE
ABOUT MY LITTLE BROTHER STEVE
NOT THAT HE’S THAT SMALL IN SIZE
HELL, HIS ARMS OUTGREW MY THIGHS
AND HE STANDS ABOUT SIX THREE
AND HIS HANDS COULD GRIP A TREE

PHYSICALITY ASIDE
I WANT TO WRITE ABOUT HIS PRIDE
FOR HIS HANDSOME SON NAMED JED
AND THE WONDER GIRL HE WED
AND HIS DAUGHTER MADISON
WHO HAS EVERYBODY WON

THEY ARE TALENTED AND RARE
DEEPLY LOVED WITHIN HIS CARE
DAY AND NIGHT HE WORKS AWAY
SO HIS FAMILY CAN GROW AND PLAY

WHAT HE TALKS ABOUT HE KNOWS
WHEN HE LISTENS HIS FACE GLOWS
IT’S BECAUSE HE IS SO KIND
THAT HE KEEPSS A GOOD CLEAR MIND

I AM BLESSED BY HIS GOOD GRACE
EVERYTIME I’M IN HIS SPACE
EVEN WHEN WE ARE APART
I CAN FEEL MY BROTHER’S HEART

Dallas

Dallas

Deep in the heart of a city in Texas
A diamond breaks free from a real pretty necklace
Before it hits the ground
Another fool hits town
In the tinsel rose of Texas
Dallas

Asleep in a bar in the city called Dallas
The fool who rushed in has knocked himself out
Before he hit the ground
He took a look around
And shouted, “My kind of country –
Dallas!”

He may wake up in Waco
Or haul down to Houston
Go to old Amarillo
Or Galveston’s shore
Though he might never say so
His heart is dead certain
What he did back in Dallas
Ain’t welcome no more

(So he tries to)

Keep far apart from his memory of Dallas
What a fool can recall can kill him with doubts
Before the truth gets found
He’ll wind up on a\mound
The grassy knoll he once made famous
In
Dallas

–Repeat First Verse —

Attention

Attention

How nice of you to notice
I was sitting in the wings
With just one look
You somehow took
A picture that took me
Back to present time
Now I feel that I’m
Better off for being seen

Just remember that
What your looking at
Is empowered by the source
And if looks could kill
There’s a chance they will
So be mindful of
your sight’s full force

How awesome is this power
Of attention over me
I’ve heard it said
It revives the dead
I believe it could
Do a world of good
As the single source
Of the one life force
Without it we can’t be

Just remember that
Next time you look at
What you ask for when you pray
Your gaze can affect
And create objects
In the same way one
look made my day

Here’s to a Ruby Who Most Folks Call Annie

Here’s to a Ruby Who Most Folks Call Annie

Here’s to the happiest birthday for Ruby
Cheers to the happiness she makes makes me feel
If you could find anyone else like her you’d be
Two times as lucky in a double down deal

Here’s to the friendship she offers so freely
Without asking questions she helps make my day
Where most others pull back their hands after handshakes
Her arms open wider without seeking pay

Here’s to a Ruby who most folks call Annie
A name more befitting a girl who’s a doll
As you get to know her you’ll find a fine lady
But unlike that Ann doll… not “raggedy”
At all!

Oodles of Rain

Oodles of Rain

Looking at life

From a different level

Bottom rung of the

Social scale

Searching for hope

Without landing places

Hoping these words

Might be some avail

Monotonous dread

Comes with the new day

It grinds in your head

By nightfall it’s big

To put it to bed

Adds to the pitfall

Especially when

You’re sick as a pig

How did you get so

What brought it on

Are you that afraid

That so much is wrong

If lived is spelled backwards

You know what you get

Devil to pay,

Deeper in debt

So what’s worth the worry

No, really, why fret

Go up a few levels

Look what you’ll get

More motion and money

More freedoms galore

Perhaps some more comforts

But not that much more

Not that much more

Take heart,bottom dweller

Take in the full view

Relax as you suffer

Find new things to do

Every pain hides a gain

And around every rainbow

Are oodles of rain

Leaving Came Easy, Loving Came Hard

Leaving Came Easy, Loving Came Hard
July 13, 2011 by davidbrunoehler

How do I thank you
For the moment I left
So many memories
I want to forget
What’s the location
I write on this card
Where leaving was easy
And loving was hard
Who to leave word with
Where do I –
Drop a line
What is the best way
When’s the best time
Here’s a note,
A reminder,
A few words
Just to say
It was easy to leave you
It was harder to stay
How do I thank you
For the part that we shared
The laughter that left us
The hard times we bared
What’s the location
I can put on this card
Where leaving was easy
And loving was hard
How should I put this
Feeling I feel
Far from familiar
Rather unreal
I will carry a picture
Of why I left you
So I’ll always remember
What you put me through

In some other language
There may be a way
To show much more clearly
Or not have to say
Perhaps some old symbol
Or gesture could do
More than I’ve managed
To convey
To you
Oh, how I’m glad you
Are out of my life
Treasure forever
Our final
Good bye
Wherever you are when
This message comes through
(Believe me)
The leaving was easy
The loving was through
Leaving was easy
Loving was through
