Out of My Mind*

Out of My Mind
Out of lines and out of reasons
Out again
Until the moon becomes the sun
What a jam, this indecision
What have I done
I kept you with me all those crazy nights
But I must have been blind
Darlin’
I must have been
Out of my mind
Out of bounds, out of control and
Out too far
Too late and much too hard to find
In again and in confusion
Way out of line
I thought I needed what I never had
But I had it all the time
Darlin’
I must have been
I must have been
Out of my mind
High times and hard times have come to
An end
Time you and I come full circle
Again
I’ve been out of your arms
And I’m wanting back in
I must have been
I must have been
Out of
My mind
Out of all the other places
I have turned
To rest my burning heart
In the end left empty spaces
So far apart
I see your face as if I’m seeing mine
With a love that once was blind
Darlin’
I must have been
I must have been
Out of
My mind
Out of love and understanding
Just in time
To last forever and a day
Out of all the explanations
What can I say
I’ll make a promise I can never break
Leave my wandering behind
Darlin’
I must have been
I must have been
Out of
My mind

We Are the Stuff*

WE ARE THE STUFF

We are the stuff
That dreams are made of
And dreams really do come true
Then we’ve got enough
To pull, pull it off
And I’m here to pull you through

We are the things
That life is made of
And life really does renew
Then we’ve got enough
To pull it off
And I’m here to live with you

You used to be enough
With every little good thing
To go around
Every single thing we’ll every need
We’ve already found
Life’s not running out
So it goes from high to low
With endless supplies
Of the love in our eyes
Is enough to let go

This is the life
That love is made of
And love really comes here too
Then we’ve got enough
To pull off
And I’m here to live love with you

These are the things
That life is made of
And dreams really do come true
And we’ve got enough
To pull it off
And I’m here to pull you through

In a Matter of No Time*

IN A MATTER OF NO TIME

In a matter of no time
We could mend a wound
With a simple word or two

In a matter of no time
We could right a wrong
With a deed we do

In a matter of no time
We could better what went bad
And end the sorrow that goes with it
In the moment that we have

In a matter of no time
We could feed a man
And he could do the same

In a matter of time
We could unlock freedom
Escape the chains

In a matter of no time
We could better what went bad
And end the sorrow that goes with it
In the moment that we have

In a matter of no time at all
We’ve seen walls come down
And systems fall

Gotta stop thinkin
Like a family of men
Or the walls will rise
As we descend
In a matter of no time
Wouldn’t take any time at all
What stood in our way
Wasn’t all paved
Just like the rain from the sky would fall
In a matter of no time

In a matter of no time
We could find a love
That lasts forever

And with all those tomorrows
There’s no better time
To be together

In a matter of no time
We could better what went bad
And end the sorrow that goes with it
In the moment that we have

In a matter of no time

LIFE WILL NOT GO AWAY*

LIFE WILL NOT GO AWAY
Written by Melanie Safka and David Bruen

The other night I dream I died
Close friends mourned and loved one cried
I wanted to shout down from my dream and say
Life will not go away

You can die in battle, you can die in sleep
Even though you lose most everything
There’s always something you will keep
You can take my body but I will not die
Life will not go away

Li di di di di . . .
Life will not go way

You can’t take it with you but there is this little part
That goes and continues in the realm of the heart
So rejoice in living and let the music play
Life will not go away

Well you won’t take baggage when your time has come
Dreams go with you and deeds will be undone
So remember every promise and don’t be lead astray
Life will not go away

Li di di di di . . .
Life will not go away

I will leave the planet quieter than it was yesterday
Life will not go away

Li di di di di . . .
Life will not go away

Well you won’t take baggage when your time has come
Dreams go with you and deeds will be undone
So remember every promise and don’t be lead astray
I will leave the planet quieter than it was yesterday

Fallen Angel *

FALLEN ANGEL
Written by Melanie Safka and David Bruen

He never had wings, never could fly
In most folks book he’s a regular guy
Gets into trouble every now and then
But he always come round so I take him back in

He’s a fallen angel
Been flyin’ low for a mighty long time
Fallen angel
Heaven knows why, but he’s mine

Some guys are harder to handle than others
Some men never come down
My guys a little bit different from his brothers
But he’s always comin’ around

He’s a fallen angel
Love him to death – heaven knows why
Fallen angel
Heaven knows why, but he’s mine

Fallin’
Headin’ for under
Fallin’
Lighting and thunder
Callin’ for help from a wishing well
Crawlin’ for cover ’til I break the spell
(Fallen angel
Fallen angel
Fallen angel)

Most men rely on a certain set of morals
Some have a principle code
Mine can’t exactly rest his laurels
But carries his own load

He’s a fallen angel
Been flyin’ low for a mighty long time
Fallen angel
Heaven knows why, but he’s mine
Fallen angel
Love him to death – heaven knows why
Fallen angel
Heaven knows why, but he’s mine
Fallen angel
Ooh, oh, heaven knows why’
Fallen angel Ooh he’s mine © 1993 David Bruen & Melanie Safka

Long Beach (Revised) *

Long Beach (Revised)

Never thought I’d be singing about beautiful Long Beach
Never dreamed I could ever feel so inclined
Now I find I am bringing myself back to Long Beach
To the sands and the city that’s changing my mind

Now I’m singing every day ’bout the breezes and sunshine
How the harbor’s alive with laughter and wine
Where the dolphins and seals will play into night time
In an ocean that feels – it could turn on a dime

Never met anyone who said they’re from Long Beach
Not till I found how many resided right here
Now it seems everyone I depend on is in reach
Here at home,in a place – a place we hold dear

I am singing every day about the faces of friendship
About the strong helping hands that won”t go away
Where the friendliest smile you may see on a stranger
Or aboard on a cruise ship as she sails away

Never valued a touch as a hand held in Long Beach
Never had so much freedom to spend my free time
Reaching out, fitting in – How it goes here in Long Beach
So is this where I finally find peace of mind

I am singing every day In a chorus of solos
In a passionate way that brings harmonies
All along Long Beach Bay you can pick up the echoes
Of the spirits who beckon–beckon you stay

Let the Joy of the Season Ring*

Let the Joy of the Season Ring

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Let the joy of the season ring
Let the hearts of every man be bright
And the spirits of the children sing

There’s a light for every shining star
A song for every heart
A holiday right where we are
A time to let it start

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Let the joy of the season ring
May each child believe that reindeer fly
Wide awake in wonder what they’ll bring

Tinseled trees and mistletoe
Green and red and white
These traditions we all know
And celebrate On this special night

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Let the joy of the season ring
Hear the Harold s sing of peace on earth
And of glory to a new born King

Once there came an angel child
A gift from up above
He taught one lesson all His life
The power of His love

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Let the joy of the season ring
Let good will to all man kind be rife
With lots of love in every living thing

Let’s awake a wish for every gift
One for who it’s to
We will wrap it with a hug and kiss
Tonight it will come true

Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Let the joy of the season ring
Let the hearts of every man be bright
And the spirits of the children sing

Stuff the stockings, ring the bells
Spread good tide with cheer
All who gather round can tell
Christmas time is here!

I HAVE SEEN THE ANGELS SINGING*

I HAVE SEEN THE ANGELS SINGING
I have seen the angels singing
I have heard the heavens’ choir
Sing of joys that we are bringing
Through the rain and through the fire
It’s the sound of every spirit
In the song of every bird
Calling Home – I know we’re near it
And the meaning of His Word

Calling Home with love
Calling Home with love

From the peaks of every mountain
To the deepest ocean floor
Hope is springing from one fountain
And it will, forever more
It’s the glory of His goodness
In the wonder of His Love
With each story of forgiveness
Comes a hymn from up above

Calling Home with love
Calling Home with love

You can feel it in a whisper
In a re-born baby’s cry
In such moments you’ll remember
We’re connected: you and I
Go and tell it to all people
Write it down on every page
Sing it loud from every steeple
Join the anthem of our age

Calling Home with love
Calling Home with Love

Phoenix Rising *

Phoenix Rising*

No you don’t get to believe
Even though you shot
Me own in flames
That I’d
Easily leave
With embers burning
It won’t happen that way
In the afterglow my love will stay
And up, up from the ashes
I’m returning
Season’s come and they go
Let December winds blow
Through the fire and the snow
There is one thing I know…
I’ll be back like a Phoenix rising
Raise my head
Spread my wings
And fly
Once I’ve lifted my eyes
Above the fire
I’ll arise and I’ll fly even higher
Said my heart back to my sleeve
Though you wear me well
It’s just as well
We leave
Time to awaken
With the morning
And while we are apart
In the empty room a flame may start
Back up, up from the very
Thing we’re burning
Let the last ember glow
Let it rain high and low
Through the fire and the snow
There is one thing I know…

Goodnight Wherever You Are *

Goodnight Wherever You Are *

Haven’t told a single soul
Though I’m tempted to talk it out
Had a feeling you’d be back
But my feelings are having doubts
When I wake I think I feel you
But I always stretch too far
Never rest my head
Until I’ve said
Goodnight
Wherever you are
My old car is running fine
And I finally lost ten pounds
And even though the bed’s all mine
I’m actin’ like it’s ours
When I wake I think I feel you
But I always stretch too far
Never rest my head
Until I’ve said
Goodnight
Wherever you are
Goodnight to the mirror
Goodnight to your old robe
I’m doing things like you were here
And wishing it were so
At times I laugh at your old jokes
Those who know know why
People who love forever
Find better things to do
Than cry
I’ve got time to do more things
I’m out with friends all night
Thankful for these tender mercies
‘til I turn out the light
Just tonight I felt a chill
And I wished on one more star
I never rest my head
Until I’ve said
Goodnight
Wherever you are
