When I Am Free

When I Am Free

When I am free

I’ll no longer be weighed down with problems

All my doubts and indecision

Will be left behind

No more hurt or pain

Will I entertain

Nothing more will bother me

When I am

Free

When I am free

I’ll no longer need to ask permission

All my thoughts and intuitions

Will be clear and right

I will understand

Who I really am

And begin to bathe in light

When I’mmm

Free

Finally,

Almost time to let go

Just when I don’t know
Nor should I

It will be

A release of some size

A familiar surprise

Awaits me

When my body and mind

Are both left behind

Once again I’ll arise

And see

Friends on white opal sands

Extending their hands

Singing songs with my family

A harmonious welcome

Awaits by the sea

When I am free

When I am free

I will loosen up my grip and let go

Sigh goodbye to frets and ego

To become renewed

All that will remain

Besides my name

Is the love I’ll still carry with me

When I am

Free

.

When I am free

There is no such thing as foreign language

No more need for war and anguish

All that falls away

Every misery

Gives into gravity

As I blend with wind and the day

When –

Finally

It’s my turn to return

Oh how I burn

To get there

Gracefully

Like a Phoenix I’ll  rise

See without eyes

Old embers

Up from ashes of me

Until I am free

To begin to be

Infinitely

With my wings open wide

I lift up and glide

And then soar into

Forever more

All the love I’m aware of

Becomes part of me

When I am free

When I am free

I’ll return to a home I’ve longed for since birth

God‘s reward for living on Earth

Where no one grows old

Though I can’t explain

I  could make the rain

Turn to lacy white flakes when it’s cold

Or  place rainbows

When I am free

We will gather round and tell our stories

While we open Morning Glories

Singing hymns of praise

Lighting Fireflies

Helping paint the skies

Doing chores like this eternally

When  I am

Free                                                      –

Little Murders

Little Murders

It’s not illegal

And yet it’s lethal

An innuendo

That when crescendos

Is gonna kill

A little murder

A little dirt

Ill will

A thrill

Here’s to little murders

Cheers to those who do them

Scrap that cloak and dagger-you

Needn’t use them

There is a way

To put someone away

With little, subtle things

That you do

And you say

And

Amen

I’ve done them

Gone and picked a perfect victim

And done him in

And

Ah yes

They’re gruesome

Even to the ones who do them

Go and do some

I love an intrigue

A little mystery

Sleuthing them daily

Who-done-it gets me

And even worse

A little murder

Is hard to capture

At first

The worst

Here’s to little murders

Cheers to those who do them

Scrap that cloak and dagger-you

Needn’t use them

There is a way

To put someone away

With little, subtle things

That you do

And you say

And

Amen

I’ve done them

Gone and picked a perfect victim

And done him in

And

Ah yes

They’re gruesome

Even to the ones who do them

Go and do some

You cannot see them

But you can feel when

A smile gets eerie

And soon you’re weary

Some looks can kill

A little murder

Behind a flirt

Covert

It hurts

Here’s to little murders

Cheers to those who do them

Scrap that cloak and dagger-you

Needn’t use them

There is a way

To put someone away

With little, subtle things

That you do

And you say

And you do

Think I’m Gonna Stick Around

Think I’m Gonna Stick Around

Gonna stay a little longer
Than I planned
Jump back in the water
And kick up the sand
Somehow the thought of leaving
Has left me behind
Think I’m gonna stick around
Hope you don’t mind

Gonna wake again and find out
Here I am
Rise and shine and hang out
Right here where I stand
The notion of more motion
No more can I find
Think I’m gonna stick around
Hope you don’t mind

Think I’m gonna stick around
No more thoughts of travel
Plant my feet, back in the ground
Let all flight plans unravel

See, I couldn’t leave without you
Never would
Any place without you
Just isn’t good
The thought of being elsewhere
Is cruel and unkind
Think I better stay in town
Hope you don’t mind

Music

Even if I wasn’t asked to
What the heck
I’d have to be beside you
You knew I’d be back
Somehow the thought of leaving
Is now out of line
Think I’ll put my luggage down
Hope you don’t mind

Gonna spend a little more time
Every day
Celebrate the sublime
And not go away
The more I like to linger
The longer I’ll stay
Think I’m gonna stick around
Hope it’s okay.

Lovin’ Over Budget

Lovin’ Over Budget

We live in an apartment

It’s what we can afford

The jobs we have pay all the rent

Thank God and praise the Lord

The fact that we’re employed and healthy

Makes us mighty proud

We’re middle class – not sick or wealthy

And you can bet your bottom dollar

Our love is well endowed

Somehow we’re livin’ like

A king and queen

Without a big castle

Or buying a thing

And while we keep on livin’ life

Within our means

We’ll keep on lovin’ over budget

Far beyond our wildest dreams

She likes to cut out coupons

He’d rather dicker down

We often stop to window shop

Before we go to town

On the day when we were married

We didn’t wear expensive rings

We put a few bucks down for a bridal gown

Payin’ pennies on the dollar

We ate cup cakes and got more things

Somehow we’re livin’ like

A king and queen

Without a big castle

Or buying a thing

And while we keep on livin’ life

Within our means

We’ll keep on lovin’ over budget

Far beyond our wildest dreams

Go to auctions, save receipts and never buy cars new

Always hate it when we have to go in debt

Don’t buy magazines that envy what the big stars do

Always looking for  new ways to make do, yet

Sometimes when money’s tight

And the soup is getting thin

Wouldn’t it be nice

To roll in dough and waller

When our ship comes in!

For now we’re livin’ like

A king and queen

Without a big castle

Or buying a thing

And while we keep on livin’ life

Within our means

We’ll keep on lovin’ over budget

Far beyond our wildest dreams

-Instrumental –

February – Fourteenth Day

February – Fourteenth Day

February

Fourteenth Day

Glad I’m with you

Just wanted to say

The same old three words

I use every time

But in a new way

So you’ll know they’re mine

“Tequiero”

Spanish for

What I’m feeling

But I feel much more

Seems like the best words

Have been used before

I need new language

For one I adore

We could cruise the South Pacific

Through a thousand little isles

Where ever Tagalog is spoken,.

Mahal Kita” brings smiles

I’ll say, “Salamat po” for “Thank you”

And we’ll be off on our way

To celebrate this date:

February

Fourteenth Day

Kinda scary

In a way

To be carried

Away in this way

Not afraid to

Take any chance

So I will tell you

J’taime” That’s from France.

“S’agapo”

That’s the Greek

With a hand-sign,

No need to speak

“Ti-Amo ‘s” Italian

“Ik hou van jou” – Dutch

“Ich liebe dich” is German

I won’t use as much

Long ago cave people painted

Their feelings on the walls

And in some primitive places

They copied animal calls

“Mel in le” is the Elvish

From the Lord of the Rings

“Wo-eye nee” is how the Chinese

Wooed romantic things

Around the world expressions

A zillion different ways

On every February

Fourteenth Day

–Instrumental Bridge–

This could be the best solution

Simply put in foreign tongues

But before I settle on one
There’s a couple more to run

Like a nudge under the table

Like a wink I toss your way

Little things that say “I love you,”

There, I said it anyway.

Different words that share one meaning

I am trying to convey

For this very February

Fourteenth Day

Hasn’t Anybody Seen Her

Hasn’t Anybody Seen Her

Got a card and letter

From another new address

Sounds a little better

Than the other place, I guess

Every note

Is more remote

She’s running for a reason

I feel she can’t express

Hasn’t anybody seen her
Will you please inform me if you do

Never leaves a number

Don’t try to call

If you do she’ll move
I really want to see her

She’s so beautiful and rare

Last time I was with her

Almost got to kiss her

Turned around and found she wasn’t there

When we were younger

Lived together for a year
She was full of laughter

Right before she disappeared

To this day

She won’t stay

You mention a commitment

She’ll blow your dreams away

Hasn’t anybody seen her

Never mind if my love is blind

I’m happy when I’m with her

That’s all I know

Just about all I can say

Where’s a better way to find her

Pretty blonde, about five ten
I could paint her picture

Put it in a poster

In a magazine for single men

Ones who saw her would remember

And give their all

For a chance to get to greet her

To meet her

In person

To see her back here again

Hasn’t anybody seen her
We have always been best friends

Even though we still are

I think we’re too far

Apart to do back-bends

Bet she still has golden long hair

Opal eyes that look through you

I’d make it my duty

To protect her beauty

Just to be around it again

No matter what the reason

She changes like the seasons

I make it my business

Just to be with her again.

I Hate to Have to Love You, But I Do

I Hate to Have to Love You, But I Do

I have got to tell you something

Hope you won’t think I am cruel

It has to do, in part, with the way that I’m feelin’

And, in part, with what I learned, way back in Sunday school

Perhaps you haven’t even noticed

I’ve been quiet for a while

Today I took a look back at how you’ve been behavin’

And I see how many times I’ve gone an extra mile

Before you get up in a lather

Here me out until I’m through

I have a problem keeping track of my cheek turns

And if things don’t turn around they’re gonna turn on you

Along the lines of “gotta love it”

It’s engrained inside my head

Every time I got myself into trouble

Here is what my mama said:
You make it hard to love you, but I do

“I hate to have to say it but it’s true\

What you’re doin’ unto others

Wouldn’t want done unto you

I hate to have to love you, but I do

Hate to pay my income taxes but I pay

Wake up early, walk to work on Saturday;

Eatin’ only what I should

Do my best to just be good

And I’m prayin’ some temptation

Will not lead me astray

“I hate to have to love you, but I do”

“I hate to have to say it but it’s true

What you’re doin’ unto others

Wouldn’t want done unto you

I hate to have to love you, but I do

]So back to what it is I”m wantin’

To communicate to you

Despite all reasons not to dig what you’re doin’

I will continue

Much as I hate to

I’m gonna have to

I hate to have to love you… but I do © 2012 David Brunoehler

What A Marriage Is

What A Marriage Is

Take away the picture perfect wedding

Wipe your plate of big designer cake

Let those rows of fresh cut roses live on

Let’s not make that big bridal mistake

Keep the guest list down , in fact don’t have one

Dress in what you wore when we first met

Register all gifts to homeless children

Make them ones they won’t forget
For all the things that symbolize a wedding

Focus now on what a marriage is

The union of two souls who’ll share their bedding

As spirits that is all it means

For all the love between two human beings

Who’ve found the reason why they want to live

Together they may make or raise a family

As one they’ll have more room to give

Cut down on the price of matching bridesmaids

Wouldn’t it be nice to not dye shoes

No more putting men in rented clothing

Not to mention all that booze

Forget about the need for wedding planners

Cancel invitation printing bills
Think of what you’ll save on wedding dinners

When you marry with no frills

— Instrumental Bridge —

For all the things that symbolize a wedding

Focus now on what a marriage is

The union of two souls who’ll share their bedding

As spirits that is all it means

For all the love between two human beings

Who’ve found the reason why they want to live

Together they may make or raise a family

As one they’ll have more room to give

Tell all the camera men to mind their business

Send every entertainer on his way

You probably have to beg forgiveness

When you tell the preacher he can’t stay

For all the happiness that lives between us

And how it grows with each new day

A wedding runs the risk of making bogus

What two lovers meant to say.

Little Pieces

Little Pieces

Little pieces of paper
A business card
A matchbook cover
Little secret on paper
Tucked away
Picked up later
A little piece to savor
On a little piece
Of paper

Little pieces of paper
A pad and pen
A cocktail napkin
Little pieces of paper
Folded twice
And handed over
A little sneak adventure
On a little piece
Of paper

What’s your sign
You look like a Leo
Yours or mine
What hotel do we go
To begin
Whatever it is we do
Once again
On another first-time
One night
Rendezvous

Little pieces of paper
A tab and tip
A doily liner
Little pieces of paper
Hat check stub
A private number
A little close encounter
On a little piece
Of paper

Little pieces of paper
A canceled check
A torn book corner
Little pieces of paper
The spice of life
A different flavor
A little piece whenever
On a little piece
Of paper

Got the time
Mind if I sit here
You’re so fine
Another round, we’re
Getting close
To go do what it is we do
Once again
On another first time
One night
Rendezvous

It goes to show\

You never know

Where a  little piece of paper
Will lead you.

Hello, Hi, How Are You?

Hello, Hi, How Are You?

Look at any morning
Visualize a sunrise
Open up those sleepy eyes
Notice when you do
That I am with you
I’m with you

Stir your cup of coffee
Hurry up and hurry
Blink a few times through the blinds
Notice when you do
Yes, I am with you
I’m with you

Hello, Hi, How are you?
Hello morning flower
Hi s at sunrise brighten my eyes
Hello, it’s today
And noticing which “hellos” sing
I look at life that way

Read the morning news and
Step into your shoes then
Grab your thing as a blue bird sings
Hellos, How are yous
Tell him I am with you
I will, too

Birds bring in the new day
Singing in the same way
As the ones who came before
They taught them as they flew
How I wish that I could fly too
I’d like to

Hello, Hi, How are you?
Hello Mister Blue jay
Hi s at fly-byes brighten my eyes
Hello, it’s a new day
And noticing which “hellos” sing
I look at life that way

Instrumental Dance Break –

Look for little rainbows
Not up high but around your toes
Twinkling in the morning dew drops
Here’s some on a rose
They’re all around you
They found you

See how all the trees sway
While the breeze blows the leaves away
Listen closely let them greet you
Here’s what they will say,
“It’s nice to meet you,”
Same to you

Hello, Hi, How are you
Hello Bees and the squirrels in trees
Butterflies arise in fly-byes
To bid you a fond mon dieu
And noticing these little things
I love to live this way

I’m noticing what smiles and sings
It gets me though my day
