What If We Are Angels

What If We Are Angels

What if I’m an angel
What if you are too
What if we do not belong here
And don’t remember what to do
Maybe we’ve forgotten
Who we might be —
Or could have been
Angels who have fallen
Looking for their wings again
What if we’re all doin’
The very best we can
Given all an angel’s given
In an unfamiliar land
I believe in angels
I believe in me and you
I rely on miracles
And on angels
To carry them through
What if we are angels
What if — Heaven knows —
You and I can fly
Angels without wings
With voices that sing
And the freedom and will to try
What if I remembered
What if you did too
What our life was like before we
Lost our way,
While passing through
What if we’re imprisoned
Unaware of
What did us in
Angels who have fallen
Reaching out for wings again
What if we’re all doin’
The very best we can
What with all an angel’s given
In an unfamiliar land
